217 AI developers voted in a category with a clear front-runner. Here is what the results reveal about the state of experiment tracking.
The March 2026 IT Brand Pulse AI Brand Leader survey asked 217 members of the AI developer community to vote for Market Leader and Intelligence & Innovation Leader in Experiment Tracking Platforms, one of 26 products in the AI Engineering stack. Weights & Biases took a commanding lead in both categories, receiving 41.9% of votes for Market Leader and 44.7% for Intelligence & Innovation Leader. The remaining vendors—Comet, Neptune.ai, and ClearML—occupied a distant second tier.
These results show one of the clearest leadership positions across the entire AI Engineering stack. Weights & Biases has established both strong developer mindshare and perceived innovation leadership, with a margin that suggests the category is beginning to consolidate around a dominant platform. The IT Brand Pulse analyst team expects experiment tracking to increasingly merge with evaluation and observability workflows as AI systems become more complex.
What Are Experiment Tracking Platforms?
IT Brand Pulse defines Experiment Tracking Platforms as systems that enable developers and data scientists to log, track, compare, and reproduce machine learning and AI experiments across the lifecycle. These platforms provide capabilities such as parameter tracking, dataset versioning, metrics visualization, artifact management, collaboration, and integration with training and deployment pipelines. As AI systems evolve toward LLMs and agents, experiment tracking platforms are expanding to include prompt versioning, evaluation tracking, and lineage across increasingly complex workflows. Experiment Tracking Platforms sits within the Operations sub-layer of the broader AI Engineering stack, alongside LLMOps Platforms, AI Observability Platforms, AI Evaluation Platforms, and Model Registry Platforms.
